Special characteristics and educational goals of the department

The goals of this department are to comprehensively study theory and technology pertaining to the science of “food” that is necessary for human life, to fully provide a specialized education in which students receive a basic education on food, humans, health, and social environment and can pursue in an integrated manner the knowledge and techniques necessary for a national registered dietitian, and to cultivate human resources who can be active in all fields of society as diet and health specialists.

Diet directly influences human health, and is indispensable in the maintenance and improvement of health as well as medical treatment, extension of life expectancy, and the improvement of quality of life. The most significant special characteristic of this department is its conducting of research and education with the relationship between this diet and health as its principal theme.

Admissions Policy (Student Acceptance Policy)

This department is seeking individuals:

  • 1.who are interested in diet and health
  • 2.who desire to acquire knowledge about diet and health and the practical, applied skill sets
  • 3.who have sufficient basic academic capability and the ability to investigate matters from the perspective of (the) natural sciences
  • 4.who desire to contribute to society using what they learned at university

Acquirable Qualifications

The graduates receive a bachelor’s degree. Also, students who complete necessary courses will obtain the following qualifications:
(Notice: these can be acquired concurrent with graduation by completing certain courses and credits)

  • Eligibility to take the National Exam for Registered Dietician
  • Dietician License
  • Nutrition Teacher’s License
  • First-Class Junior High School Teacher’s License (home economics)
  • First-Class High School Teacher’s License (home economics)
  • Teacher-Librarian Qualifications

Fields in which students can become active following graduation (Career Options)

  • National registered dietitians in charge of nutritional care and management at hospitals, schools, health and welfare facilities, and in sports, as well as civil servants in charge of creating a dietary environment through such things as nutritional and dietary administration, dietary and nutritional education
  • Home economics teachers in junior and senior high schools
  • Product development and public relations in food product related industries
  • Educational and research work at universities and institutes
