私の現在の研究対象は、日本の高等教育政策に関連しています。具体的には、日本の大学生のオンライン学習や留学プログラムへの関心、経験、好みを調査しています。

My current research interests are related to higher education policy in Japan, more specifically, investigating Japanese university students' interests, experiences, and preferences in online learning and study abroad programs.

研究概要

ONLINE EDUCATION IN JAPAN
The Internet is a major technological advancement of our generation and is rapidly reshaping not only the workplace but also our educational institutions. Schools, colleges, and universities across the globe have increasingly incorporated online education into their educational mix. Today, students are learning English using technology more than any other means. With the increased speed of the Internet and the improved accessibility of mobile devices, language teachers are now able to improve student learning outcomes through online resources.

However, Japan has traditionally relied on textbook-based classroom learning, until COVID-19 forced policymakers to close elementary and secondary schools. Many colleges and universities followed by extending winter vacations in order to avoid infections among students and staff. The global spread of COVID-19, and the extended school, college, and university closures are sure to accelerate the growth of online education in Japan, but at what cost to the many Japanese students that lack the digital skills and/or tools to thrive in this new tech-savvy environment.

Online Learning Research Project Purpose
The purpose of this mixed-method study is to investigate (a) student online experiences, interests, and needs, and (b) students’ preferences to web-based video conferencing tools.
