1.The History of the Research Center for Women's Lifelong Education

With the goal of improving the position of women in society, the Research
Center was originally established on a modest scale as the Women's Lifelong
Education Resource Room in 1985, the final year of the International Decade
of Women. The original purpose of the Resource Room was to contribute information
resources for women's life and culture, but at the same time lecture series
open to the public were inaugurated to contribute to the continuing education
of all regional residents.
In 1997 the Resource Room was transformed into the Research Center for
Lifelong Education, with a broader range of goals in improving regional
residents' lifelong education opportunities. Then, in April of 2004, with
the university's move toward privatization, the Center added “Women” to
its name to more clearly define its purpose, becoming the Fukuoka Women's
University Research Center for Women's Lifelong Education.
2. Lecture Series Offered by the Research Center for Women's Lifelong Education
The Center's goal, as defined in the university's fundamental plan for
the future, is to promote women's career education and lifelong learning.
In addition to supporting the education of women during their working lives,
the Center also provides a venue for ongoing education for everyone in
the region, including those in their later years, both men and women.
The major public lecture series offered are aimed at students and other
local residents and include: the Saturday Open Lecture Series (10 lectures),
the Spring Open Lecture Series (6 lectures), and the Fall Open Lecture
Series (6 lectures). In all these lecture series, topics of importance
to local residents are considered, and the university teaching staff often
contribute with presentations of research results.
It is never too late to learn new things, so we hope you will feel free
to join us at the Fukuoka Women's University Research Center for Women's
Lifelong Education!
