Department of Living Environment Science

A fundamental theme of the education and the research in the department is to address various issues concerning the living environment from the viewpoint of the average person. To resolve these issues properly, various methods for discovering problems underlying our daily lives, dealing with these problems appropriately, and coordinating the solutions are indispensable. In order to develop these capabilities, a unique educational curriculum is provided which is composed of (a) fundamental subjects for problem investigation, (b) subjects for problem solving, and (c) subjects for comprehensive analysis.
  Furthermore, the department has two educational courses based on specific themes: a living environment design course and an environmental management course. The living environment design course deals with physical and biological aspects such as heat, air, light, sound, and fungi, and psychological aspects such as aesthetic effects and human relations in daily life. The environmental management course takes up problems of energy, resources, waste materials, and environmental pollution, which are becoming more serious day by day.
