Faculty of Literature
In the Faculty of Literature, we aim to foster students’ ability to think critically about the world around them and to act independently. For this purpose, we have created a unified curriculum combining common courses for all students (the liberal arts) and major subjects, and we emphasize educating students in small classes. Also, our university has traditionally provided each student with the solid education and professional knowledge she needs to develop her own abilities and individuality, a policy which has resulted in distinguished graduates who are now actively involved in passing on our cultural heritage while also working on the front lines of the community for the progress of society.
With this common purpose in mind, teaching staff with an international perspective, here on the hill of Kasumigaoka with its beautiful view of Hakata Bay, strive to produce individuals capable of independent judgment and action. We have two departments, the Department of Japanese Literature and the Department of English Literature. Students can learn about culture and literature in specialized classes covering various academic subjects, such as problems of human psychology, international politics and economics, world history, foreign languages, and so on. This system provides them with access to both a specialized and interdisciplinary basis for education, and has been successfully producing able women now engaged in education, business, and various other fields.
