Reform of Fukuoka Women’s University - Aiming for a Fukuoka Women’s University for a new era -

To address the subject of how university should be in this new era, the “Aiming for a Fukuoka Women’s University for a new era” proposal of the Fukuoka Women’s University Reform Examination Committee (12 members, 1 special member) established by Fukuoka Prefecture was presented to the Governor in February of 2008, and in March was reported to the prefectural assembly.
The proposal aimed to further develop the University and propose its future trajectory.
In order to make it a reality, the prefecture established a Preparatory Committee for the Radical Reform of Fukuoka Women’s University (hereinafter “Prefectural Preparatory Committee”) in June of 2008 with sixteen members. Participants from this university included its President and two Directors.
Fukuoka Prefecture formulated a “Fukuoka Women’s University Reform Basic Plan” based on the deliberations of the "Prefectural Preparatory Committee", and publicly announced it on November 4th, 2008.
This basic plan scheduled the opening of new academic divisions in April of 2001, and in the future the university will develop contrivances to make that a reality.
We ask that you all give us your kind and understanding support with regards to the university reform.

Message from the President: toward reform

We aim to be a university that cultivates human resources with international character and ability to specialize who will have the potentials to flourish in the future globalized society.

  • We will enrich more than ever the research necessary to graduate conducted in the four years of university as part of our focus on specialization.
  • We will cultivate international character by focusing on communications education such as English-language studies.
  • Will increase the number of experiential and dialectical courses and further enhance the small class size education that is a distinctive trait of this University.
  • We will facilitate more liberal study of humanities and science courses.
  • We will provide society with practical educational programs useful for career enhancement, and aim to provide a foundation for the lifelong learning of women.

The course content of new academic divisions to begin in 2011 is currently under consideration at this university. There will be no change of the current educational organization and content for the current students and students entering university in 2010.
We will bear responsibility for their education until they graduate.

Admissions
What we look for in applicants
As the foundation of the entrance exam essentials for April 2010 university entrants, we would like to see our applicants having developed basic academic skills during high school to enable them to become the types of talents we would like to cultivate at our University: those who can work proactively on the world stage, and those with a broad range of education.
Therefore, with respect to entrance exams:
  • We regard Japanese language ability and English language ability as important
  • We would like to accept examinees with basic learning skills in a broad range of subject matter
General entrance exams
For central entrance exams, the fundamentals of being able to take an exam with the current entrance exam subjects are being examined. The individual entrance exam subjects and the like are currently being examined.
Admission based on Recommendation
We are considering implementing this starting with those who enter the University in April of 2011.
AO university entrance exams
We do not plan to implement this for those entering the university in April of 2011. Its implementation is under consideration for those entering after April 2012.
