Graduate School of Literature

In our graduate school, we help students expand their knowledge of undergraduate specialties to become tomorrow’s leading scholars. Gaining a wide-ranging knowledge of culture, history and society, graduate students in both the Japanese literature and English literature course are trained to take responsible positions in education and research.

Graduate Course in Japanese Literature (Master’s Degree Course)

Our course aims to cultivate educators and scholars by providing graduate students with a broad education which will enable them to engage in their fields internationally.
Toward this goal, we have developed an effective curriculum to provide students with more specialized knowledge, not only in Japanese history, culture and thought, but also in Chinese literature and art history. We also have implemented comprehensive classes focused on Japanese linguistics, Japanese education, Japanese literature, and Japanese kanbun, thus giving students valuable new points of view for their studies.

Graduate Course in English Literature (Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree Courses)

Our course aims to cultivate leading educators and scholars in various areas of specialization. To achieve this goal, we have provided a curriculum focused on developing specialized knowledge of literature, linguistics and culture in English, and also strong communication skills. For students who have full-time jobs, and flexibility in the teaching schedule has also been implemented.
Papers by our graduate students are often published in major academic journals, and our graduates generally find full- or part-time positions at institutions of higher learning or as high school teachers.
