Faculty of Literature
The Academic Principles of the Faculty of Literature
At the Faculty of Literature, we aim to nurture individuals who can act independently by acquiring abilities such as smart thinking and comprehensive judgement skills, which will guide them through today’s social climate of globalization and information advancement. For this purpose, we have created a unified curriculum that incorporates common courses, such as liberal arts and major subjects, for all students. Classes are delivered in small-group learning environments. As a tradition of the Faculty of Literature, we provide education where each student’s individualities and skills are valued. This has resulted in distinguished graduates who have acquired scholarly wisdom and cultural refinement, and who are now actively involved in passing on our cultural heritage, while contributing to the cultural advancement of our society.
In order to deliver individuals who are able to think on their own and are capable of independent judgment and action to the world, teaching staff with an international perspective has gathered here on the hill of Kasumigaoka, overlooking beautiful Hakata Bay. To nurture women who play a key role in education, business and various other fields, our education covers various academic subjects, such as issues in human psychology, international politics and economy, world history, foreign languages, world cultures and so on. Based on this education, we have two departments, the Department of Japanese Literature and the Department of English Literature. These two departments were established to deliver balanced education system, both specialized and interdisciplinary, in which students can learn Japanese and Anglo-American culture and literature in a deep and comprehensive manner.
