A Message from the President

Fukuoka Women’s University (FWU) was founded as the nation’s first public university for women in 1923. Since then we have been pursuing our mission to provide women with higher education enabling them to become active leaders and contributors toward the betterment of our society.
It is now a time for change internationally and globally. It is indeed a time for change for people worldwide, and thus a time for women to commit themselves more to the realization of their individual dreams through higher education. FWU will stand beside you as we have for 85 years.
Currently, we have two faculties, the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Human Environment Science, as well as the corresponding graduate schools, details about which are provided in this home page. While we will maintain and value the current curriculum over the coming 2~3 years, we are also planning after that a major reform in our focus. The reformation is aimed at emphasizing international student exchange activities while cherishing the legacy of our decades-long education and research.
The city of Fukuoka, the home of FWU, has developed alongside Hakata Bay in northern Kyushu and now has a population of 1.4 million. The campus is near the seashore and overlooks the bay and many scenic spots varying with the seasons. Life at FWU certainly will provide you with rich opportunities on and off campus.
On behalf of FWU students, alumnae, faculty and staff, I heartily encourage you to visit us and perhaps even spend some of the most important days of your life with us.
